The International Cooperation Institute – ICOOI was founded in 2003 with the goal of diversifying Brazil’s international relations as a major strategic move for its economic, social, political and cultural development. ICOOI’s initial target was the promotion of the relations with China, the fastest growing country in the world which represented, regarding Brazil, at the same time great challenges and great opportunities.

To celebrate the 30 years of diplomatic relations between Brazil and China in 2004, President Lula went to China with the biggest Brazilian delegation ever. In August/September 2008, with the support of the federal government, State governments and the sponsorship of state and private companies, ICOOI organized the I EXPO BRASIL CHINA, in Beijing. Two years later, in 2006, the second edition of the event took place.

Among the preliminary actions for the II EXPO BRASIL CHINA, ICOOI elaborated, edited and selectively distributed in 2005 and 2006, 25.000 copies of the magazine NEGÓCIOS COM A CHINA (Business with China), with actual data and information on China. ICOOI also organized seminars in more than 25 capitals and major Brazilian cities, in a way such as to make China better known among Brazilian authorities and businessmen.

In November 2006, ICOOI actively took part in the organization of the ISAF XVI – International Symposium on Alcohol Fuels, in Rio de Janeiro. In 2007, it promoted the I Brazil-China Ethanol Workshop. In 2008 the second edition of the Brazil-China Ethanol Workshop took place during the VI Feicana and III Feibio, in Araçatuba, São Paulo, Brazil. Also in 2008, ICOOI edited and is now distributing to key people and institutions 25.000 copies of the magazine NEGÓCIOS COM O BRASIL (Business with Brazil) in mandarin, and has started a series of seminars for business sensibilization promoted by APEX – Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency in 52 Chinese cities, aiming at promoting the Brazilian potentialities for imports, exports and investments. Besides, ICOOI has been organizing Brazilian governmental and business missions to China, at the same time it receives and gives support to the visit of Chinese missions to Brazil.
